Steve – Scorpio
1951
I started in music in the second grade playing a Sears Chord
organ. The next year I enrolled in piano lessons and in the
5th grade became a member of a Vienna Boys choir type of singing
group at my Catholic Church. During this time, I loved listening
to the Juke Box at Lakeshore Swim Club in the early 60’s,
mimicking harmonies from Everly Brothers, 4 Seasons, and other “Do
Wap” sounds. In 1963–64 the Beatles hit the US
market and I picked up the guitar. Late that year we started
our first 8th grade band. I never sang much lead vocal but
harmonized on just about every song and also developed leader/booking
experience during those early years. Later in High School I
was able to play in and lead several different bands. I somehow
managed to always be in some kind of music endeavor over the
next 30 years while finishing my BS in chemistry from Purdue
and working for Lilly. My children and siblings gave me great
support over the years. I in turn tried to make all my children’s
functions. I met Ray and Rob in the Mid 70’s as we were
doing clubs around Indianapolis in various bands. Rob and I
have played in several different venues over the past 30 years.
We have been both students of many eras of music. Ray and I
played together in some groups back in the late 70’s
and discovered we had science (Chemistry), spectator sports,
cycling, and similar music interests. I discovered back then
Ray and Rob both were great vocalists and this is the basis
for the current trio. From late 70’s to 2000 I was able
to lead a group called the Diamond Band. Scores of very talented
singers, players, friends migrated in and out of that group.
I remain good friends with just about all those guys. I have
been very privileged. I thought about retiring in 2000 from
music but got lucky and put together a smaller band called
Second Wind. From 2000-2004 the group grew in size and song
variety. We began shows with an acoustic rock sound and then
transcended to a lot of rock and great dance music. We developed
quite a following thanks to our loyal friends. Sadly, that
group ended in late 2004 and I really and truly retired. I
dabbled in some light acoustic work with a friend in late 2006
as well as Ray and I trying to pull off a duet act. In late
2006, I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I made
a strategic call to Rob on New year’s Day 2007 and told
him Ray and I wanted to talk to him about joining with us.
We agreed to look for opportunities for the three of us to
do something positive in 2007. That happened and now we are
really moving forward with high energy! I thank my friend Jeff
Brown and Rick’s Café at the Boatyard (Eagle Creek)
manager Adrienne for giving us the opportunity to get started
last year.
By the way, the name Second Wind is about three musicians getting
re-energized after significant careers. I also enjoy the fact
that it relates to endurance racing, such as marathons and triathlons,
which I am in constant training. You will see pictures of my
running/biking friends in our photo page as they are avid music
fans too!
Peace, Steve (Beatle wannabe)

My
name is Rob McCoy and I was born in January of 1951.
I was always surrounded by music. I grew up listening to all
of the music from the 20's, 30's, 40's - big bands and vocals ...
I loved it all. Heck, my parents cleared out the living room
and sang and danced with Lawrence Welk every week.
I started to play trumpet at the age of twelve and also began
singing in choir at that time.....but when the Beatles hit the scene I was bitten
big time with the ever popular "I gotta play in a band" bug.
I played with groups throughout high school and college, but
in 1973 I decided to play professionally...so I joined a local group
called Max and stayed with the metamorphosis of Max into a very
popular local group called Fresh. I met Ray Petronzio while working
in Fresh. We traveled the country and misbehaved for a number of years.
While I was working with Fresh I met Steve Bogard and when
I
stopped playing with Fresh, Steve afforded me an opportunity to work with
him on his project.
In essence I have known and performed with Steve and Ray for
more than 30 years. I think our music is fun and we very much enjoy
singing and entertaining.
Please join Second Wind for a fun evening.
Peace!

I was born in 1951 in New York City.
I started playing music by playing
bass in the 5th grade. I was influenced by Judy Garland and Les
Brown. Shortly afterwards I picked up on Doo Wap music by hanging
around the great singing groups just outside of Flatbush. I became
the bassist in my first rock band in 1963 after I repeated 7th
grade 3 times.
I played in high school bands performing at non
chaperoned parties and at shotgun weddings. I moved to Indiana
in 1974 after getting numerous offers for scholarships in Chemistry
and Tennis. I thought about giving up on music but ran into Rob
McCoy and starting playing bass in a local lounge band. After
that I met Steve Bogard and the three of us began to sing in church
choirs and old folks homes.
I pulled out to sell Amway for a
few years. After I cleaned up there, I began riding my bike everywhere
including yoga and quilting class. I never stopped singing and
consider myself one of the top shower harmonizers in the city.
I enjoy singing with Rob and Steve except we don't do enough
country music in he style of Conway Twitty who I still Idolize today.
I hope to update this bio very soon with more detailed information.
Peace
Ray
